Bath Abbey from the Roman BathsWith its cultural, intellectual and social resources, the World Heritage City of Bath soon becomes as familiar to Advanced Studies in England students as their home campus. Living centrally in this compact and cosmopolitan environment provides optimum opportunity for students to interact and discover the city, quickly becoming members of the community, rather than merely visitors..

Within a safe and easy five or ten minute walk from their historic residences, students will find the first-century Roman Baths, the fourteenth-century Abbey, the Theatre Royal, various galleries and museums set in and around glorious eighteenth-century architecture, and the twenty-first-century Royal Bath Spa Development.

On the Pride of Bath in front of the weir at Pultney BridgeBath abounds with cafes and coffee houses, including the famous Pump Rooms, which tempt students in for tea, coffee, cakes and - for the bold - a taste of the Bath waters. Pubs of all sorts provide folk music, jazz or just a good atmosphere in which to enjoy a pint and discover the English in conversational mode.

18th Century House & Garden at Prior ParkThe River Avon dominates the city and is ideal for students to row on, to walk, jog or run beside, or merely to gaze down upon from one of their residences.
As a member of the Bath community, you will have the best of several worlds. ASE student residences are chosen specifically to give students the feeling of being part of a neighbourhood. Each fosters a sense of British - not just student - life. Bath is also a city for students. 15 percent of the population of 100,000 are in higher education - and the clubs, pubs, shops Canal boats decorate the tow path and restaurants cater to them with their range of entertainment, 'specials' and discounts. This vibrant social and cultural scene gives students ample opportunity to integrate with British students. Beyond this, the ASE staff work with several volunteering opportunities, offering students further scope for immersing themselves in the community.
