Professor with studentsThe Oxford University model of weekly tutorials, where students meet with a professor on a one-on-one, two-on-one, or three-on-one basis, is rightly envied throughout the world for the unique academic opportunity it affords undergraduates. ASE offers academically qualified and intellectually motivated students the opportunity to undertake an Oxford-style tutorial course, whether they are with the programme for a single semester, or for the full academic year.

Single semester students are offered a range of tutorials in predetermined subject areas and are taught in classes of a maximum of three-on-one. Full year students can elect to undertake an individually supervised thesis in the Spring semester on a subject of their own choosing. Both tutorial options provide ideal preparation for senior thesis work, and indeed for graduate research. There is also an Independent Study option. In special circumstances, for instance where a student has a specific requirement that is not met by any of the seminar courses on offer, ASE may be able to arrange a single semester independent study in other subjects. Please contact us directly with details of the course of study you require.

ASE recommends 8 credits for the tutorial programmes - the equivalent of two ASE core courses. The student's timetable is completed with two additional core courses. Please note that the tutorial programmes cannot be combined with internships, the classical and modern languages option or the Education programme. There is an additional fee of £500 for the Single Semester Tutorial Option and Independent Study Option, and of £600 for the Full Year Tutorial. The fee for all tutorials includes any travel expenses incurred.
