Internships The American Museum (internship) [Autumn & Spring] The American Museum in Britain offers a unique opportunity to
study how North American decorative arts and history are viewed from a British
perspective. The museum collections are displayed in a series of period rooms
from seventeenth-century Massachusetts to New Orleans on the eve of the Civil
War. The museum also has a renowned collection of quilts, North American Indian
displays, Folk Art, and a prestigious map collection. The placement is likely
to be based with the curatorial and education departments and would be of particular
interest to students of history, but also of museum studies, education, or art
and design.
Bath Cats and Dogs Home (internship) [Autumn & Spring] Bath Cats and Dogs Home is an affiliated branch of the RSPCA
(Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and is one of the largest
re-homing centres in the UK. Over 2,500 animals are sheltered, cared for and
re-homed every year by the organization, which is based on the edge of the city
of Bath. The interns duties will be varied, but are likely to include
helping with fundraising and communications - events, PR and media liaison,
copywriting, and administration. Bath Magistrates Court (internship) [Autumn & Spring] This internship is ideal for any student wishing to get firsthand
experience of an integral part of the British judicial system. Through shadowing
a legal advisor, witnessing in close-up the workings of a Magistrates
Court - including criminal trials - and undertaking extensive personal research,
the intern will be encouraged to reflect critically on the differences between
American and British legal systems. The successful candidate for the placement
will be self-motivated, presentable, and have a real interest (and preferably
background) in the detailed workings of the law. The Big Issue Southwest (internship) [Autumn & Spring] Inspired by Street News, the New York street paper, The
Big Issue was first launched in the UK in 1991 and is now sold by homeless
and vulnerably housed people across the country. A small, dedicated team of
full-time employees and volunteers in the Bath office oversees the distribution
of the Big Issue Southwest magazine, providing practical and personal support
to vendors. Besides working closely with this team in their day-to-day duties,
the intern will have an opportunity to help organize fundraising events, develop
new services for vendors, and identify fresh business opportunities for the
magazine locally. Initiative, good research and report-writing skills, as well
as a responsible attitude, and an enthusiasm to work with vulnerable people,
are therefore essential. Black Swan Arts Centre (internship) [Autumn & Spring] Black Swan Arts Centre is a dynamic venue for contemporary arts
and crafts, situated in Frome, a small country town approximately 15 miles from
Bath. High quality, innovative work is exhibited in two galleries. An extensive
education programme includes talks, workshops and residencies linked to exhibitions.
The Arts centre also has three craft studios, a café and a craft shop
stocking a wide range of original work, including ceramics, jewellery, textiles,
wood and metalwork. The internship provides the opportunity to engage with many
aspects of work within the centre, including administration and publicity. City of Bath College - Creative Arts Department (internship)
[Autumn & Spring] Subject areas: Art, Business, Education (Fine Art Department)
and Museum Studies (Hot Bath Gallery) CSRnetwork (internship) [Autumn & Spring] This internship involves working with CSRnetwork, a leading
social and environmental management consultancy. The company is based in Bath
and advises large, multinational companies on corporate social responsibility
issues. The team helps to develop and implement strategies, write reports and
audit performance. Recent projects have ranged from designing stakeholder engagement
guidelines for Vodafone to writing Toyota's North American environmental report.
The intern will work as part of the team on current projects, gaining invaluable
insight into the workings of a small, international practice. Open to all students
with a genuine interest in environmental and social issues and/or wishing to
pursue a career in business. Faragher Jones Publishing (internship) [Autumn & Spring] Founded in 2002, Faragher Jones is a small, independent publishing
house in central Bath, committed to ethical publishing and with a vested interest
in Fairtrade and Green issues. The company publishes everything from bi-monthly
videogame magazines for CHIPS and ePlay to Fairtrade directories and offbeat
travel guides to the city. Staff members are involved in various parts of the
publishing process, including design, copywriting and advertising. Applicants
should be self-motivated, confident, willing to do independent research and
copywriting, and interested in honing their writing skills in a friendly, passionate
work environment. Footprint Publishing (internship) [Autumn & Spring] Footprint is a small publishing house based in central
Bath. They produce over 100 travel guides to around 150 destinations around
the world aimed at the independent traveller: their competitors are Lonely
Planet, Rough Guide and Lets Go. Their small team of
full-time staff in Bath deals with everything from the initial conception of
the guides to the finely detailed cartography, though the intern's work and
research is likely to be centred on marketing. Applicants should be highly-motivated,
computer savvy, confident with language, ready to turn their hands to a variety
of office-based tasks, and passionate about publishing and travel. The Holburne Museum of Art (internship) [Autumn

in environmental, lifestyle and organic gardening guides. New titles include
The Toxic Consumer and Green Parenting. As part of a small, but
growing company, the intern will work in a number of different and varied roles
from editorial and production to marketing, sales and administration. If you
are confident, creative and have an interest in the increasingly topical environmental
issues facing the worlds populations then this may be the internship for
you.

life of politics - at a local and national level - is all about. Don Foster,
Member of Parliament for Bath, and his team offer the successful applicant real
life exposure to a busy working environment in which you will receive
basic training, take responsibility, and contribute to the success of your placement.
Your duties will involve responding to constituents problems and questions
and may also include a day of shadowing Mr. Fosters activities
in Westminster. This placement is likely to appeal to politics majors, as well
as those from other academic areas who have a genuine interest in the mechanics
of local and national government. Manvers Street Baptist Church / Open House Centre (internship)
[Autumn & Spring] This internship offers the chance to be immersed in probably
the most successful city centre church outreach engagement of its type in England.
The people we help include parents with babies and under-threes, people with
anxiety and learning difficulties, young people, and those who seem excluded
from most social provision. You will work at the interface between the church/Christian
faith and the issues facing those who live and work in, or visit Bath city centre,
becoming a part of this community. Besides assisting with the day to day running
of the Centre, there may also be opportunities to help with communications /
marketing projects and to carry out useful research. Museum of Bath at Work (internship) [Autumn & Spring] The Museum of Bath at Work aims both to complement and act as
a counterpoint to the many heritage attractions of the city, charting Baths
fascinating commercial and industrial history, its development as a manufacturing
centre as well as a tourist destination. Permanent collections include the contents
of a local engineering firm, a hardware shop, a Victorian soft drinks factory,
and Bath Stone mine. The museum also has a lively educational programme for
schools and colleges, presenting regular lectures, dayschools and workshops.
Besides general experience of a heritage attraction, including exhibition preparation,
liaison with schools, archival research etc. the placement offers the chance
