Dear Student,
Welcome
to the ASE Website. I shall be looking after your academic welfare
whilst you are studying in Bath. Whether you choose to come to England
for a semester or a full year, ASE will offer you a unique educational
experience and encourage you to develop your academic skills and widen
your range of scholarly interests.
You will be taught in small seminar groups (classes are normally no larger
than thirteen and often much smaller) by a team of tutors, most of whom
come from Oxford University and all of whom are highly qualified specialists
in their fields. ASE tutors are committed to our ideals of combining
high teaching standards with a personal involvement in our students' academic
goals. We offer a wide range of courses and, if you have not taken a course
in Philosophy or Classics before, now is the time to experiment with new
subject areas, safe in the knowledge that you will be given individual
attention both inside and outside the classroom. I am here to guide you
in your final course choices, to ensure that you are supported academically
through the semester with whatever problems you may have, and to offer
advice on your next steps after you leave ASE. You may find that
the ASE experience will open up a new range of possibilities for
you and, like Michele Gemelos (Skidmore College), Matt Hansen (Washington
and Lee University) or Danielle Barbour (William and Mary College), you
may decide to return to England to take higher degrees at Oxford, or,
like John Kernis, (Hobart and William Smith Colleges and a previous Graduate
Intern with ASE), stay on in England to complete a Master's Degree at
the University of Sussex.
I look forward to meeting you in the near future.
Dr. Barbara White
ASE Dean and Director
