  • Advanced Studies in England Nelson House, 2 Pierrepont Street Bath, England, BA1 1LB United Kingdom (map)

What are the best paths towards a sustainable future in post-modern societies? In an era marked by unprecedented ecological crises, the necessity for a sustainable future is at the core of debates within the most important governmental, social, and economic institutions worldwide.

In this course, students will examine and critically analyse the implications of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 agenda, and explore and debate how these objectives are shaping the reality of post-modern societies. The course will explore strategies as well as the means of implementation to achieve these sustainable development goals.

Topics to be examined include: the maintenance of ecological resources; the eradication of poverty and hunger; sustainable food systems; health and wellness; gender equality; affordable. clean energy; innovations in industry; responsible consumption; and creating sustainable cities and communities. The course will also examine how language shapes our perceptions and actions, diving into the realm of Ecolinguistics. In doing so, the student will learn how language can be harnessed as a tool for ecological change, exploring how linguistic shifts can drive sustainable consciousness.

Expect to dive deep into the heart of the sustainable development debate, to reach a more profound understanding of the causes and consequences of the climate crisis and, most importantly, of the solutions that lie within our grasp.
